Camper Safety
At Camp Quest, we are committed to ensuring the safety of our campers. Learn below about the steps we take to help make camp a safe environment for everyone.
2021 COVID UPDATE
Each Camp Quest camp is operated individually, and its board will make its own determinations regarding the safety of running summer camp for 2021. More details for camp choices will be released as camps confirm locations and COVID regulations/procedures for 2021.
All Camp Quest camps will follow the guidance of state and local health authorities as well as recommendations by American Camp Association. For camps that are able to operate, there is still uncertainty around COVID-19 and how it will impact camps. Health and safety policies are still to be determined, including space limitations. As we learn about new regulations for summer camps in 2021, we will keep you informed about how this affects our camp operations.
Licensed Programs
Camp Quest member camps commit to our extensive licensing program, which includes minimum standards of program activities and operations, as well as annual and seasonal reporting, training requirements, and volunteer conduct expectations.
Commitment to Best Practices
In 2018, the Camp Quest network partnered with the American Camp Association, offering discounts to our camps on their ACA fees for accreditation and camp membership. In 2019, three of our camps received ACA accreditation, bringing our total accredited camps to five. Camp Quest advocates for secular youth programs and works with the American Camp Association to ensure that our camp communities are aware of the resources available to them through the ACA.
Abuse Prevention
All Camp Quest volunteers who work with children must undergo annual background checks and training conducted by our local camps. We advise all camps to implement a comprehensive volunteer screening program, including interviews, professional reference checks, voluntary disclosure statements, and checks against the National Sex Offender Registry. Additionally, Camp Quest makes discounted online training available through our training provider, Expert Online Training.
If you have a safety issue to report, we want to hear from you. Please contact us to report your concern, or write to us at Camp Quest, PO Box 341, Staunton, VA 24402.
